President's Message

Hello folks and welcome to the Playhouse, Whitley Bay. It's nice to have you all with us once again. Whitley Bay Pantomime Society presents in it's 47th year, the ever popular story of Cinderella for your entertainment. Maybe some of the younger people in the audience would like an introduction. It started as a story in Russia when young Cinderella's mother died and her father married a widow with two very unpleasent daughters - our ugly sisters. The father and the two sisters made Cinderella's life a misery, making her do all the housework and clean all the ashes from the fires - so she became known as Cinders.

There are thought to be over 400 versions of this story produced - not only as a Pantomime but also in various other forms such as Ballet, Comic Opera and even as an American Musical. The Pantomime is now the well-established version with jokes about football and local politics plus of course the magic coach.

Now I don't want to spoil the rest of the story for you so sit back, laugh with Buttons, be wowed by the lovelly fairy and marvel at Cinderella's coach pulled by a real live pony.

Thank you all for your wonderful support. Enjoy this performance and we will see you again next year.
