President's Message

Welcome to the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society's 48th pantomime production, and to Whitley Bay's Playhouse. This Pantomime is one of the most popular pantomimes and our production rings the changes this year. The story is simple; Dick goes to London to make his fortune. He meets Alice, acquires a cat and gets a job on a ship. All are shipwrecked on a rat infested island, Dick and the cat dispose of the rats, both are well rewarded, Dick returns to London and becomes Lord Mayor.

Real life is not always that simple, earlier in the year our Co-Producers Rowland Maughan and Joan Walton decided to take a well-deserved retirement after many years of working with the Society. Sadly Joan died in October 2011 and we all mourn her passing. We also lost Tina who played the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, after a major struggle with cancer.

Life goes on; we are delighted to welcome Jeff Waites to the Society as Director, who will maintain the sparkle and magic on the stage. Jeff is no stranger to the stage, having written and directed shows for many years in the local area. We intend to produce a Pantomime in 2013 that has not been performed in Whitley Bay before. It is promoted in this programme.
