Whitley Bay Pantomime Society

A Big Thank YOU!

Following the recent appeal for more volunteers to come forward and assist with the administrative side of the productions to help secure the future of the Society, the Committee were delighted with the very positive and heart warming response they received.

They wish to thank all those who have come forward to help and now look forward to not only pressing ahead with "Sleeping Beauty" but also another 50 years of presenting traditional Pantomime in Whitley Bay. Although it's early days we are keen to hear from anyone, male or female, interested in joining the cast of "Sleeping Beauty~" either as chorus or principals.

Auditions will be held later in the year but if you would like to be pat of the chorus or try for a principal role get in touch with the Society's Secretary Carol for further details.   Minimum accepted age for Chorus is 14 and for Principals 16.

We also have a number of fun projects lined up before then that you may wish to get involved with too and if you want to find out more contact Steve Bell our Vice Chairman s_a_bell@talk21.com he'll be happy to tell you all about them!!

NEWS UPDATE    “50 YEARS AND COUNTING!“

In January the Society proudly celebrated 50 years of traditional annual Pantomime at Whitley Bay Playhouse with “Aladdin”.   A review of the production by NODA can be found elsewhere on this website.

We now look forward to the next 50 years but first, it should be noted that Whitley Bay Pantomime Society is now a fully Registered Charity No. 1156038.  Thanks are due to our President Jim Graham for guiding us through the application  process to a successful conclusion.

As everyone involved with amateur theatre knows, very often people only see our finished production on stage and are completely unaware of how much advance planning needs to be done by many volunteers behind the scenes to ensure its success.   Such areas as advance publicity/advertising, fundraising, costume design and sewing, painting/building of props, makeup and even backstage crew.  These tasks remain hidden from the public eye but are essential if the Society is to continue in its aim to present traditional pantomime in Whitley Bay for the next 50 years.   To achieve this we need to grow in strength through more volunteers coming forward to lend a little of their free time to help.

There are lots of areas where a little help would be appreciated, previous experience not necessary!  Do come along and say hello, bring a friend if you can. We would love to see you and you can be sure of a warm welcome, after all Pantomime is all about fun and we have lots of that!!.

We also (sometimes) win Awards!   The Society has just won the George Todd Trophy awarded by North Region NATIONAL OPERATIC AND DRAMATIC ASOCIATION (N.O.D.A. for short) for the Best Poster Design for their “Humpty Dumpty” poster.  This was designed by Steve Bell our Vice Chairman and congratulations and thanks are due to Steve for all his work in producing this.
